Hello. I am a British guy living in London with an odd weekly ritual. Every Monday, come rain or shine, I absolutely MUST get to a small news stand near Oxford Circus to purchase a little known (to Brits...) American magazine called 'Entertainment Weekly'. The news stand only sells 6 copies each week (and are ridiculously overpriced), and it's always touch and go as to whether I will actually get the magazine before it sells out. Frankly, it's a nerve wracking journey each week - because if I don't get it, I'll be pretty cheesed off.If I am not at the news stand by Monday evening at 7pm, my chances of getting the magazine drop considerably. Not there by Tuesday?,You're playing with fire... Leave it to Wednesday and I will face severe disappointment.
I will usually stop at nothing to purchase this magazine every Monday (just 1 day after it is published in the US). So, in this blog I will detail the, often, ridiculous lengths I'm prepared to go to in order to make my way to the news stand each week.
Family and friends think this is a rather odd. I welcome your comments.
Over the coming weeks and months, I will also post pictures of the news stand in central London that sells Entertainment Weekly, and also, post a few snaps of me (hopefully) holding the magazine - every Monday or whenever/wherever I finally manage to get it.
Be warned though, this will be a bittersweet blog at times. I have yet to purchase the magazine in 2009, despite more than 12 visits to the news stand....
Why don't you subscribe?
ReplyDeleteNot possible in the UK. Even if I could, each issue would take 5-6 weeks to arrive...

ReplyDeleteIt's possible in France where I live, so it is in the UK.

I would say 3-4 weeks.
And, yes, I'm a suscriber. :-)
3 to 4 weeks after publication seems a little pointless to me but I'm pleased to hear that subscription is an option for some.
